Mullivaikkal · 2009Honouring those who were lost, those who survived and the lives forever changed.

Remembering Mullivaikkal.

For Eelam Tamils, Mullivaikkal represents the final stage of the genocidal war in 2009 and the immense suffering experienced by Tamil civilians.

Thousands of civilians were killed, injured, displaced, or disappeared. Families lost loved ones, homes, and their way of life. Survivors continue to carry these memories today.

We preserve these stories so they are documented, remembered, and passed on to future generations.

02 / OUR SHARED HISTORY

Why Eelam Tamils
left Sri Lanka.

For decades, conflict, violence, persecution, displacement, and insecurity forced many Eelam Tamils to leave their homeland.

Some escaped by air. Others travelled through dangerous land and sea routes seeking safety. Many eventually rebuilt their lives in Canada and other countries around the world. Their journeys and experiences are an important part of our shared history.

03 / A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

May 18 — Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.

Every May 18, we remember those who were killed, those who disappeared, and those who survived.

In 2022, Canada's House of Commons unanimously adopted a motion acknowledging the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka and recognizing May 18 as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.

04 / EDUCATION & HEALING

Educating the next generation.

Our greatest responsibility is to ensure that younger generations understand what happened, why their families were displaced, and why remembrance matters.

Through memorials, survivor testimonies, historical documentation, photographs, books, exhibitions, and educational programs, we seek to preserve these memories while promoting human rights, dignity, justice, and peace.

Our hope is that remembering the past will contribute to healing and help ensure that future generations never experience the same suffering.

We do not pass hatred to the next generation.
We pass memory. We pass knowledge. We teach human rights.

05 / OUR MISSION

Our mission.

Remember the victims. Honour the survivors. Preserve the evidence. Educate the next generation. Promote human rights. Build a future where such atrocities are never repeated.
